Expanding treatment options for appendicitis
As the paid chair of the Patient Advisory Group, I provided strategic direction, guidance, and advocacy for Comparison of the Outcomes of Antibiotic Drugs & Appendectomy (CODA). A five-year, $12.9M clinical trial funded by PCORI, CODA transformed appendicitis treatment in the U.S. to include antibiotics without surgery. In addition to monitoring for patient-centeredness, I was involved with video scripting, peer journal writing, and results promotion and explanation.
Workplace
Culture
Building a work culture of positive productivity
In an expansive role at Pearson, I oversaw operations, programming, and cross-functional teams for three geographically diverse educational assessment centers. On-time, accurate delivery for high-stakes concurrent projects depended on an engaged temporary workforce of 300+ per year. To motivate and manage, I created a new KPI system for aligned placements, fostered an environment of openness, appreciation, and fun, and used continuous improvement for efficient production.

High-Impact Communications
Changing how people talk about end of life planning
At Honoring Choices Pacific Northwest (HCPNW), I adapted and grew the program to meet changing needs for healthcare and the community. My work encompassed building an international social media presence, creating new ways of public engagement, and consulting with clinical and community partners for program success; I also developed new products, materials, curricula, and tools. In 2018, HCPNW was commended by Respecting Choices for our collaborative, person-centered approach.
Change
Management
Responsive repositioning in changing circumstances
The past two years have brought tremendous change and challenge which called for timely, authentic responses. I crafted HCPNW's public statement and commitments to Black Lives Matter; additionally, I developed curricula to assist partners in recognizing and addressing racism at end of life. To adjust to the pandemic's remote world, I reconfigured certification training to be Zoom-friendly, built boot camps on virtual engagement, and rolled out a menu of interactive events for diverse audiences.
